Description :

Numerous books and commentaries have been written on the book of Daniel with varying interpretations and accounts. A number of these controversies arose largely from the debates surrounding who and when the book was written and allusions to specific individuals and events which could not be verified at the time. The eleventh chapter, in particular, has posed a challenge to many scholars and readers. At issue was the question of a 6th century BC author being so precise in fore-telling many geopolitical events to come. Most significantly, the Old Testament writer pointed towards the eventual advent of the Kingdom of God.

Recognising that Daniel received this vision at the beginning of the reign of Cyrus, whom Isaiah had referred to as God’s Anointed, perhaps this last communication was designed to direct his readers to the advent of the true Messiah, “the Son of God, who is to come into the world” (John 11: 27)? With this perspective, the narrative of Daniel chapter eleven unfolds. Tracing these prophetic, historical events leading to Christ has been an extraordinary journey and one that has relevance for us today.

This book has a wealth of historical detail, the result of patient and painstaking research. Though Dr Mak declares that he is not a professional Bible scholar or historian, he nevertheless has produced a book that would be of interest to pastors, historians, and even Bible scholars. For the general reader, this book gives reassurance that Daniel is a truly prophetic book, the prophecies of which are borne out by the fine details of history. Our confidence in the reliability of the Bible and its authority over our lives remains firm.

Dr Mak has done a wonderful job formulating a chronicle that reveals the surprising and amazing account of God’s sovereign hand in history. Our Lord is not only the God of History but also of Today and the Future. We need His Word and guidance, more so than ever.

“Lord, teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalms 90:12)

As a scholar, I admire those who pursue truth for the sake of truth. Dr Mak Koon Hou has shown this integrity in the writing of his book. Jesus said that He is the truth, the way and the life. All his followers put truth first, after which they are enabled to travel on a narrow way and enjoy abundant life thereafter. I commend his book for those who are searching for the truth as well as those who are already on the narrow way and sometimes have doubts. May his writing dispel the discouragement rampant in our times when there are so many voices. The bible speaks truth to us and through prophets who are enabled to see into the future for God is not bound by space and time as we are.
