Description :

The story of the first three kings of Israel (Saul, David and Solomon) serves to demonstrate how fickle and fragile men are. Though “anointed” by God, the kings were fallible and prone to taking their eyes off of the Sovereign God. They reflected the broader social and religious malaise of the people as they increasingly turned away from the authority found in the Law of Moses and the knowledge of God.

Through the three kings, God has taught us not to trust our self-centred instincts, to build our faith in God and share this knowledge of God’s Word with the next generation. These, and other God-honouring principles, are gently, yet poignantly, woven into the historical narrative by the author.

As the author concludes: “In this book you would have found the timeless principles by which the kings should have lived. In this light, such principles remain relevant to all of us today.”

Reviews:

The timelines, maps, diagrams and pictures are immensely helpful and interesting;- Your style is readable and accessible to the lay person. You add interesting details that are missing from commentaries, and you draw important Biblical and pastoral lessons in your writings; Your work will be a good resource for understanding a big part of the Old Testament, which unfortunately remains hazy for many Christians. --  Mr Liew Cheng San the pastoral staff of Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church, English service.
