Description :

The Songs of Ascents (Psalms 120-134) were sung by Jewish pilgrims as they climbed to the temple in Jerusalem. They contain profound thoughts about God amid the painful and uncertain realities of life. They are filled with trusting and poignant prayers, and prepared the pilgrims for worship in the temple. These psalms have continuing relevance for us today as we make our way to our churches, and provide deep stirring thoughts for pilgrims on the road of life. Using plain language and with many helpful insights, this book explains how this is so.

“Under [Bishop Solomon’s] guiding hand, the reader understands afresh the worship of those early pilgrims to Jerusalem and hears their challenge to us across the centuries to live out Christian worship in our homes, neighbourhoods, offices and churches.”

Rev Dr Tim Meadowcroft
Editor in Chief, Journal of Theological Interpretation (Penn State University Press)

“A timely and refreshing devotional guide on the essence of worship and prayer for all clergy and laity alike.”

Rev Dr Steven Gan
Former Moderator, The Presbyterian Church in Singapore; Senior Minister, Amazing Grace Presbyterian Church

“This is an inspiring book useful for both lay readers and pastors alike. The book is pleasurable to read; it relates to Christian life and worship in particular.”

Rev Dr Michael Tan
Visiting Lecturer, Brisbane School of Theology, Australia
