Throughout the Scripture, we find that God set apart certain things and places and people for Himself; they were consecrated for His use. They were not to be used for common, ordinary, everyday purposes; they were Holy.  ~ Holiness: The Heart God Purifies Nancy Leigh DeMoss

Nancy DeMoss wrote that the biblical concept of Holiness carries with it a sense of belonging to God. We are "set apart" for and by God. We belong to God. God is Holy and Holiness is not an option for those who belong to Him. It is a priceless privilege to be "set apart": to be cherished; to fit into God's eternal plan; to be freed from the destructive nature of sin.

Spiritual growth is not automatic. It is something we must pursue: growing in our faith, growing in holiness, growing in our knowledge of God, and growing in our love for God and for others.

God wants to spiritually purify us with the result that our hearts and actions reflect the character of Jesus Christ to others, much like the refiner who will only stop the refining process once the metal residue reflects his image, like a mirror. How then can we respond to God's holiness? To have the desire of surrender, of purification, and to be refined by God’s love.
