What happens when a cancer diagnosis turns your world upside down?
One phone call, one word from a doctor, one test result—and suddenly, the life you were living becomes the life you used to have.
The Need Is Great is a pastoral companion for the cancer journey—for patients, caregivers, and everyone who loves them. Drawing on Isaiah 61 (the passage Christ chose as His own mission statement), it traces the movement from ashes to beauty, from mourning to praise, from a life broken open by illness to a life that quietly displays the splendour of God.
This book does not promise easy answers or a smooth road. It promises something more durable: that even in this wilderness you never chose, Christ is walking beside you. His grace is greater than your deepest fear. And no suffering is wasted in His hands.
“With his many years as a psychologist and pastor who has ministered to sufferers of pain, grief, and loss, Pastor Yam has written a much-needed book. His is a quiet and wise voice walking with those struggling with setbacks and uncertainties. He uses metaphors such as a wilderness, an anchored boat, a burnt garden, and a well-worn key to bring out deep truths that we have God’s presence even in our darkest moments, as we place our undying trust in Him and in His unfailing love to make something beautiful from the ashes and laments of life.”
— Bishop Emeritus Dr Robert Solomon, The Methodist Church in Singapore
