When someone offers you a gift, you can either receive it or reject it. You don’t have to pay for it.

The world has been in the COVID-19 pandemic for the last two years. Scientists and researchers raced against time to look for vaccines to stem the spread and find the cure. We know about COVID-19 but many people are unaware of a disease more devastating than COVID. This disease that infects the human soul is SIN. The Bible says that ALL have sinned and fallen short of God’s standard (Romans 3:23).  The result of sin is death, separation from God resulting in eternal condemnation and the fires of hell. But for those who believe in Jesus as their personal savior and Lord, they have been saved from these consequences. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 NASB)

Your sins are forgiven

The solution for sin was provided by Jesus who showed His love for us in that while we were yet sinners, he died for us (Romans 5:8). “For He rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1;13,14 NASB). Those who believe in Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord experience the forgiveness of ALL their sins. They can be assured of a place in heaven based on the promises of God (John 5:24).  “Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”

You Begin a New Relationship with God

Jesus’ death on the cross for our sin bridges the gap between us and God. Every Christian can have the assurance that a right relationship exists between himself and God. Without this assurance, it is impossible for anyone to experience true happiness and fulfillment in life. Assurance of salvation is not based on feelings but trust in the facts found in the promises of God, the Bible (John 5:24).

The moment that you, as an act of faith receive Jesus Christ into your life to be your Lord and Savior, He comes into your life according to His promise in Revelations 3:20. This is a once and for all decision because He promised in Hebrews 13:5 that He will never desert you or forsake you.  Jesus has become a permanent resident in your life. God also promised in Romans 8:38-39 that nothing, absolutely nothing can separate you from the love of God which is in Jesus Christ. Another comforting fact is that as God’s sheep, no one can snatch you out of the Father’s hand or take you away from Christ. “My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” (John 10:27-29 NASB).

You Become a Child of God

The Christian becomes a child of God (John 1:12) and belongs to the family of God together with other followers of Jesus. Salvation is God's favour freely given to anyone when he puts his faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8,9 NASB). When you reach heaven and God asks you why He should let you into heaven, you cannot boast of all the good works you have done.  Salvation is a gift of God and cannot be bought or earned.  When someone offers you a gift, you can either receive it or reject it. You don’t have to pay for it. God wants you to rest on the finished work of Christ on the cross and accept it as a gift.

You Have Eternal Life

Eternal life is a life of knowing God (John.17:3) and is found in the Son, Jesus Christ. If a person has Jesus Christ, he has eternal life. Eternal life begins the moment a person invites Jesus in his life and is not just measured in quantity of days, but the quality of life in a close personal relationship with God and Jesus. (John 17:3).

Our emotions will change from day to day. We may be plagued by doubts and questions. However, we need to remember that our personal relationship with God is secure based on our faith in the trustworthiness of God and his Word. God keeps His promises.

The effects of vaccines will wear off. We need booster jabs to boost our immune system.  In contrast, once we have Jesus as our Savior and Lord, we are saved from the eternal consequences of sin.

Based on this article, what are some things that are true of your life right now when you believe in Jesus as Saviour and Lord?  Would you to pause now and thank God for what He has done for you through Jesus Christ? The very act of thanking God demonstrates faith and pleases God.
